PHOENIX — Maricopa Community Colleges are utilizing 3D printers to produce and donate personal protective equipment to health care facilities and first responders across the Valley.

The Healthcare Education Department and the Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation are also working in collaboration with the effort, according to a press release.

Estrella Mountain Community College will produce ear guards that alleviate irritation accompanied by face mask usage. The institution hopes to produce 1,500 guards during the next two weeks and 1,000 each week thereafter.

Glendale Community College, Paradise Valley Community College and South Mountain Community College will focus their efforts on producing face masks over the next several weeks.

“Through our collective efforts, we are committed to working together in the service of those who need it most,” Interim Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales said in the release.

“I am honored to be part of a system that can adapt to a very challenging situation and support our community.”

Over the past two weeks, EMCC, GCC, PVCC, and SMCC have manufactured more than 3,000 ear guards and 185 face shields.
