PHOENIX — An 11-year-old girl from Mesa just beat cancer and got quite the celebration.
A parade of cars drove through Maggie Lent’s house on Saturday to help celebrate her victory against cancer.
“We just got the news last week that she’s cancer-free and there’s no sign of cancer anywhere in her body, so we’re celebrating today,” said Lissette Lent, Maggie’s mom.
Maggie had a Stage 3 germ cell tumor.
She completed six rounds of chemotherapy, a milestone that usually comes with a bell ringing celebration. But with visitor restrictions at the hospital due to the coronavirus, only one parent could be there for that.
“So we decided to bring the bell ringing to the house in the driveway and invite all the people that have been standing by our side throughout this whole situation,” Lent said.
Dozens of friends, family and people who’ve been by Maggie’s side throughout her fight against cancer showed up, many of them honking their horns and cheering as they drove by.
They decorated their cars with balloons and signs with messages like “Maggie the brave” and “You are our hero.”
“She is like a light of hope to so many people,” Lent said. “We are just honored and blessed that she’s impacted so many people’s lives, and they wanted to be here to support us.”
