PHOENIX – A child was shot early Monday in Phoenix and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Police said a 10-year-old boy was injured in the shooting near 19th and Peoria avenues around 6 a.m.
Witnesses told officers that someone in a car in the parking lot had shot in the direction of the child and a man.
Sgt. Mercedes Fortune identified the man only as a relative of the boy.
“We don’t have a very good description of the vehicle or a suspect at this time,” Fortune told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
Anyone who has information about the shooting can call 480-WITNESS.
No other details were immediately available.
UPDATE: The father was arrested Tuesday after eventually saying the boy was shot in their apartment as they handled the father’s handgun, police said.
