PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is set to proceed with plans to improve an 11-mile section of Interstate 10 that includes the Broadway Curve following an environmental impact assessment.

In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, ADOT completed a Final Environmental Assessment after which it issued a Finding of No Significant Impact, the department announced Friday.

The 11-mile area between between the I-17 Split and Loop 202 Santan Freeway has experienced an increased volume of traffic over the last several years, according to ADOT.

The multifaceted improvement project will include: widening the I-10 to six general purpose lanes and two HOV lanes in each direction between the US 60 and 24th Street, building a collector-distributor road system between Baseline Road and SR 143 and improving traffic flow via modified connections between I-10 and State Route 143 and Broadway Road.

Additional construction will add sound and retaining walls, three pedestrian bridges and a collector-distributor road system between Baseline Road and SR 143 to aid traffic flow.

ADOT has scheduled the project’s construction to begin in summer 2021 and is set to last through most of 2024.
