Here are some stories that headlined the Arizona news cycle over the weekend.

Arizona coronavirus cases increase to 2,269, death toll at 64

Maricopa County continues to take the brunt of coronavirus cases in Arizona.

As Valley residents adjust their lives to the COVID-19 outbreak, they are now also advised to be on alert for the dangers associated with native snake populations.

The Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary announced a snake safety alert in a press release issued Wednesday, reporting having received 20 requests for snake removal services in the prior four days.

Ducey to shut down salons, barber shops, other services during outbreak

Gov. Doug Ducey on Friday announced additional guidance that will shut down salons, barber shops and other services that were initially deemed essential during the coronavirus outbreak in an executive order announced last month.

The services ceased operations on 5 p.m. on Saturday, Ducey said in a press release.

Tanning salons, tattoo parlors, spas and massage parlors are also included in Ducey’s list.

Trump approves Ducey’s disaster declaration to get funding for Arizona

The Presidential Major Disaster Declaration requested by Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has been approved, the governor tweeted Saturday afternoon.

Approved by President Donald Trump, the declaration will help the state get more support for the state’s coronavirus response.

Additional federal resources will be supplied to Arizona to help provide access to mental health care, support for tribal health care workers, help low-income residents get legal help, food assistance and other services and give the state grants to reduce risks in future emergencies.
