Arizona coronavirus cases surpass 2,000; 11 more deaths reported

PHOENIX — Arizona now has 2,019 reported positive tests for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and 52 deaths.
The number of cases in Arizona rose by 250, while 11 additional deaths were included in the report released by the Arizona Department of Health Services on Saturday morning.
Tests for the virus in Arizona increased by 2,487 to 27,160, with 7% of the total tests coming back positive.
COVID-19 cases in Maricopa County, the state’s most-populous and hardest-hit county, increased by 122 to 1,171 on Saturday, according to the report.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected” executive order to combat the spread of COVID-19 went into effect Tuesday at 5 p.m. and is active until at least the end of April.
Ducey announced additional guidance on Friday ordering salons, barber shops and other services to shut down at 5 p.m. on Saturday after initially being deemed essential in the executive order.
For most people, coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

Nationally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 277,000 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday.
There are more than 1.1 million cases worldwide as of Saturday morning, resulting in more than 60,000 deaths, according to data compiled and constantly updated by Johns Hopkins University.
