PHOENIX – Funeral services for the Phoenix police commander who was killed in the line of duty have been set for next week and will be limited to immediate family, the department said Thursday.
A Mass for Cmdr. Greg Carnicle will be livestreamed Tuesday from St. Jerome’s Catholic Church at 35th and Peoria avenues starting at 10 a.m.
“Given the health crisis, immediate tributes will only include immediate family,” the department said in social media posts.
Carnicle, 56, and two other officers were shot Sunday as they responded to a domestic violence call near 40th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road. The other officers – Marissa Dowhan and Alicia Hubert – survived.
Carnicle, a 31-year veteran, had planned to retire in October. He was the first commander in Phoenix Police history to be killed on the job.
He was promoted to commander in 2015.
“While we can’t give him the honor of a large gathering, we still want to pay tribute to Commander Greg Carnicle,” the department said in a tweet.
Police have asked the public to pause for a moment of silence at noon the day of the service in Carnicle’s memory.
