PHOENIX — Gas prices aren’t decreasing only in Arizona.

Nationally, the average price of regular gas is below $2 per gallon for the first time since 2016, according to AAA.

On Tuesday, the country-wide average price of gas fell to $1.99 as the Saudi Arabia and Russia crude oil-price war continues during the coronavirus pandemic.

The average a year ago was about $2.69.

In Arizona, the average price Wednesday was about $2.44. That’s well down from its cost on April 16, 2019, which was about $2.97. The year prior, Arizona’s average gas price was about $2.74.

The low point Arizona has reached since in the last four years was $1.51 in February 2016. The average price in the state hasn’t bounced below $2.00 since that year, according to GasBuddy.

AAA believes the average gas price could continue falling and see a low point of $1.75 in April.

The only states with gas prices above $3 as of Tuesday was Hawaii at $3.36 and California at $3.05.

Twenty-nine states had gas prices under $2. Oklahoma was cheapest at $1.55.
