PHOENIX — With many of us are working from home during the coronavirus outbreak, the Data Doctors’ Ken Colburn has a few tips to make it easier and safer, starting with your equipment.
The machines being used remotely are no longer controlled by the IT department. You are now the IT department at home.
You’ll want to make sure all your software is up to date, making sure you have solid internet security software on all work devices.
Make sure to avoid suspicious looking emails, especially ones requiring a download. This could result in serious damage to your computer.
Making sure your home computer is virus-free should also be a top priority. Scan your computer regularly for viruses, diligently keeping anti-virus software up to date as well.
Your employer may have set up your computer with various security measures, but this still does not keep all viruses at bay. Malware can still infect your computer via public wi-fi.
Always opt to stick with your private wi-fi connection whenever possible.
