PHOENIX — The second presumptive case of coronavirus in Pima County was announced Friday evening, bringing the total amount of cases in Arizona to 10.
Pima County health officials said in a press release the individual was diagnosed Friday at the Arizona State Public Health Laboratory and is in home isolation.
Officials added that the individual had recently traveled to another state. Investigators are still determining whether the person contracted the virus during travel.
There was no immediate indication that the case was linked to the other one in Pima County, which was announced Monday.
“This new case highlights the importance of hospitals, doctors, public health, and the general public working closely together,” Dr. Bob England, director of the Pima County Health Department, said in the release.
“Our disease investigators have been working day and night to protect public health, and are in the process of identifying and reaching out to any people who may have been in contact with the case while infectious.”
Health officials said they’re working to identify any contacts the individual may have had since becoming infected.
The case is considered presumptive until it is confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
It is the first Arizona one to be announced since Wednesday, when a total of three cases were reported.
Five of the cases are in Pinal County while an additional three are in Maricopa County.
