PHOENIX – Hard rain overwhelmed parts of streets in metro Phoenix and the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Thursday morning.
The flood advisory for an area in the West Valley was set to expire at noon. A flood advisory in Maricopa County was set to expire at 10:30 a.m.
If drivers weren’t facing flooded areas near Interstate 17 and Peoria Avenue in Phoenix, they were making their way through fog along Loop 303 and Interstate 10.
The weather system which was predicted earlier this week moved into the Valley during the morning rush.
Heavy rain was expected in the afternoon, Phoenix weather bureau meteorologist Chris Kuhlman told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
“There might be a strong storm, maybe even a severe storm,” Kuhlman said.
As much as 1½ inches could come down during those hours.

Rain has been coming down in the area since Tuesday and was anticipated to stretch into Friday.
That kind of four-day run of rain is unusual for the Valley this time of year, weather service forecaster Chris Breckenridge said Tuesday.
