PHOENIX – An Intel employee who recently visited the tech giant’s Chandler campus has tested positive for coronavirus, the company said Tuesday.

The Fortune 500 company, which manufactures semiconductors and other computer components, declined KTAR News 92.3 FM’s interview request but provided the following statement:

An Intel employee who was recently on a business trip at our Chandler campus has contracted COVID-19. We wish our employee a speedy recovery. The health and wellbeing of our workers and visitors are our top priorities. We will cooperate with local health authorities as needed and we’re working to ensure that all our personnel have the resources and information they need to say safe.

Intel didn’t provide details about where the worker was tested, when the person was in Arizona and what steps were being taken at the Chandler campus.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, Intel has more than 10,000 employees in Arizona. It has more than 100,000 workers globally, according to Fortune.

The company’s main Arizona campus is at Chandler Boulevard and Rural Road.

A day earlier, Canadian health officials announced that two passengers flew from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Toronto last month had since tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Also on Monday, health officials announced that Arizona had its sixth positive COVID-19 test, a resident of Pima County.

It was the first case in southern Arizona. The first five cases were in Maricopa or Pinal counties.

We want to hear from you.
