Gotta give a shout out to Lauren Silberman of NYC.
Hot on the heels of Danica Patrick taking the pole at the Daytona 500, Silberman will be the first woman ever to take part in a regional NFL combine, or showcase.
Lauren, who is 28, will show off her skills as a kicker in front of football scouts at the New York Jets training facility in Florham Park, N.J. this Sunday.
Keep in mind that Silberman has never actually kicked anything but a soccer ball in club soccer games and just started practicing long-range field goals.
She’ll be competing against plenty of college players, all more accomplished and polished and says she realizes her chances of making it in the NFL are slim.
Silberman says she’s looking at it as a learning experience and as a way to promote more female involvement in the NFL.
I don’t know that I personally would ever want to play football in the NFL, or even flag football for that matter, but hey…whatever makes you happy girls!
If you’ve got it, go for it!
Lauren probably won’t make the NFL, but she will make history this weekend, so kudos for her courage. I like her spunk. I also like the fact that she apparently plays the banjo. For this southern girl, anyone who plays the banjo is a winner in my book.
