Watching Bode Miller cry was awkward

Feb 18, 2014, 4:49 PM | Updated: 4:50 pm

Now that we’ve had a few days to digest the controversial interview, the question must be asked: “Did Christin Cooper ‘really’ go too far with bronze medalist Bode Miller?”

Sure, Ms. Cooper may have asked one too many questions regarding Bode Miller’s late brother, Chelone “Chilly” Miller. Yes, Bode did cry on national TV.

But did she go beyond her journalistic responsibilities and violate her journalistic integrity? I say no! It would have been a violation of her journalistic integrity not to.

For starters, Bode Miller was the one that invoked the memory of his late brother, not her. She simply took the interview in the direction in which he set the course.

I understand that you may disagree with my perspective. Many do. However, if you simply heard the audio or just read the transcript of the interview, would you still hold the same position? The transcripts alone do not appear out of the ordinary.

The difference is that we all got to see the video. We saw a grown man, an Olympian, cry on one of the world’s biggest stages.

Seeing grown men cry, especially on national TV, is AWKWARD. It makes us feel uncomfortable. This is the reason why Christin Cooper has become the villain, not the line of questioning.

Mike & Winey can be heard every Saturday afternoon from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on News/Talk 92.3 KTAR. Join us on Facebook.

I was right about staying in Iraq

I hate to say it, but this humble, or not-so-humble, KTAR weekend talk show host told you so. Pulling out of Iraq was a bad idea. I've said it many times on the Mike & Winey Show.

Is NBA star LeBron James an idiot, too?

No matter how you slice it, Donald Sterling, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, is an idiot. Everything that spews from his mouth is drenching in stupidity, insensitivity and ignorance. I’m simply amazed that someone so witless was ever able to climb the ladder of success like he has. Now LeBron James, one of […]
