Want to hear a horror story?

Let me warn you: This has such a scary ending, you won’t be able to get it out of your mind.

O.K., spoiler alert has been given. Here’s the story:

Once upon a time, not too long ago, a guy creates a character on the Internet that is extraordinarily tall, has a featureless face and dresses in a dark suit and tie. He is said to stalk children in some of the stories that have appeared on a community Internet site called “Creepypasta”. His name is Slenderman.

What?

You’re not scared. You’re waiting for the horror.

Fine!

Last Saturday, two 12-year-old girls from Waukesha, Wisc., stabbed a school friend 19 times. They said they had been planning the attack for months and took turns assaulting her. When police asked them what could possibly have been their motive to commit such a ghastly crime, the answer was brief and simple: They would then be eligible to be followers of Slenderman and live with him in his mansion.

By the way, their victim survived, but here’s the scary part: So did Slenderman.

I’m Pat McMahon.
