So what should I talk about on this, the first of April, April Fools’ Day?

Those fools in the Malaysian government that keep changing their airlines story daily? What about the fools in Tucson on both sides of the so-called riot that did nothing to express pride in an extraordinary Wildcat season?

Nope.

After stories like that, we need a few laughs, and isn’t that what April Fools’ Day is supposed to be about?

On April 1, 1954, absolutely no one could have imagined that the kids show that began that day on channel 5, in Phoenix, would provide laughter everyday, live, for 36 years — that’s 10,000 shows. Far more importantly, 10,000 funny shows that allowed kids and their parents to share an hour of television and laughter together.

Wallace, the straight man, created the show and was joined a short time later by Ladmo, the zany, rubber-faced sidekick.

In 1960 the cast expanded to include Gerald, the rich brat, Captain Super, the phony comic book hero and more than a hundred others.

So, on this 60th anniversary of the beginning of “The Wallace and Ladmo Show,” thank you, Arizona, from the three of us. We loved every minute of it.
