Fast track
OK — I admit I was speeding the other day on the 101. I apologize to the entire community. I was purposely, brazenly, driving 72 mph in an area of the freeway clearly marked 65.
I know that by the strict letter of the law, I’m a criminal, but I also know that the authorities have said they offer drivers a little allowance. However, does that explain the large segment of the Valley’s population zooming impatiently past me while I was comfortably doing my 72 in the so-called “slow lane”? An 18-wheeler semi went by as if he was in a qualifying run at Phoenix International Raceway.
The real reason I knew I was doing 72 is that there was a moment, just a moment, where I was compelled to check my speed, because a motorcycle in the HOV lane was testing Einstein’s speed of light theory.
Does anyone ever stop these kinds of speeders or are the police just waiting for the freeway cameras to catch them?
Oh, that’s right: We decided we didn’t need those Big Brother techno snoops.
I’m Pat McMahon and I’m still going 72.
