PHOENIX — The service industry can be tough on small business owners, especially when unforeseen circumstances force a premature closure.

Although financial struggles are a routine culprit, an unpredictable tragedy can also strike.

That is what happened to local restaurant First Watch last October.

At 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 a man in his 40s crashed his truck into the breakfast and lunch restaurant chain at 9645 N. Black Canyon Highway.

The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.

First Watch had been closed since 2:30 p.m. that day and there were no other fatalities.

After months of rebuilding and renovations, First Watch is set to reopen on Monday

First Watch currently operates 19 restaurants throughout Phoenix, but the North Black Canyon Highway location was its first, having opened in 1992.

After opening two other locations in 1993 and 1997, First Watch eventually acquired The Good Egg in 2014, and has since reopened several of its prior locations.

Upon reopening, First Watch will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

We want to hear from you.
