Closures spread across multiple Valley freeways this weekend
PHOENIX — It’ll be a restriction-filled weekend on Valley roadways led by closures scheduled on multiple freeways, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
In the West Valley, westbound Interstate 10 will be closed between 83rd and 99th avenues from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for construction to extend the right travel lane beyond the Loop 101 interchange.
The northbound Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway ramp to westbound I-10 and westbound I-10 ramps at 67th and 75th avenues will be closed during that time.
The left two lanes of eastbound I-10 will also be closed in areas between Dysart Road and 91st Avenue for sign installation.
Westbound I-10 drivers coming from the Tucson/Casa Grande area traveling past Phoenix can use westbound Interstate 8 to northbound State Route 85 to avoid the closure.
In the North Valley, Interstate 17 will be closed in both directions at Happy Valley Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday for removal of the old Happy Valley Road bridge over the freeway.
Happy Valley Road will also be closed in both directions at I-17 from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday.
“We have a lot of improvement projects taking place throughout the Valley, but the I-17 reconstruction project is a very large one,” ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.
In the East Valley, the eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed between I-10 and the Loop 101 Price Freeway from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.
All I-10 ramps to eastbound Loop 202 will be closed during that time.
Also, the Loop 101 Price Freeway will be closed between the Loop 202 Santan Freeway and Ray Road in Chandler from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for freeway widening.
All Loop 202 and Price Road ramps to northbound Loop 101 will also be closed. Chandler Boulevard will be closed in both directions at Loop 101 as well.
In Surprise, northbound Loop 303 will be closed between Cactus and Waddell roads from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday for installation of traffic flow sensors as part of a freeway technology project.
In Scottsdale, the Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be narrowed to two lanes in both directions between Scottsdale Road and Pima Road/Princess Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for bridge construction.
Hayden Road will also be closed in both directions at Loop 101.
Finally, the eastbound I-10 ramp to the South Mountain Freeway in west Phoenix will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for construction.
With rain in the forecast this weekend, previously announced restrictions on Loop 303 have been canceled.
