It’s all coming up South America

What more can South America want?
Brazil has the World Cup next year and in 2016 they will stage the summer Olympics. And just when we all thought that part of the world couldn’t possibly get any more international attention, Wednesday the white smoke over the vatican announced that the new pope is the cardinal from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In a surprisingly fast five-vote decision Jorge Bergoglio became Pope Francis, the first pontiff from anywhere in the Americas. Latinos all over the world celebrated wildly that one of their own would lead the worlds 1.2 billion Catholics.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio reportedly expressed concern: “First they’re coming across the border and now they’ve invaded the Vatican.” He apparently also was concerned over whether that white smoke was medicinal or recreational.
Some were surprised that a 76-year-old was chosen, but keep in mind that the most dramatic changes in the modern Roman Catholic Church were under the leadership of 77-year-old pope John XXIII.
So, it is possible to teach an old pope new tricks.
