Politicians make service decisions without serving

Wednesday night, a lot was said by the Democrats about the honor and pride that is an inherent part of serving one’s country in the military.
Far less attention was given to our current military obligations when the Republicans were having their convention, but they too regularly remind us about the glory and respect that our servicemen and women deserve from the moment they put on their uniforms.
I agree with everything they all said about what an honor it is for any American to make those patriotic sacrifices by being a member of the armed forces. However, I was left with one important question: how would any of them know?
Not one of the presidential or vice presidential candidates and only one of the Obama cabinet has ever worn anything more noble than a scout uniform. Our combined House and Senate membership shows 79 percent with no military service of any kind.
It just makes me wonder if their decisions regarding where they will send our family members to defend the country would be any different if they had ever faced an enemy, besides someone from the other political party.
