One election is over as of Wednesday and it’s only a couple more months until it’s all wrapped up and we no longer have to wonder which neanderthal has the biggest club.
Were there any surprises for you?
I don’t think I was prepared for the East Valley voters who had provided former Senate President Russell Pearce with so much power for so many years, to turn him aside so decisively.
The failure of Andrei Cherney in his bid for a congressional seat certainly puts into question how valuable Washington experience and a position in the Clinton White House was.
But if there is any lesson that may have been taught to some from this year’s campaign, it’s the one that came out of the Jeff Flake-Wil Cardon Republican race for the Senate. It began as if it was a no rules martial arts contest between a Congressman and Fort Knox. We couldn’t escape the millions of dollars in TV spots from Cardon. Result: Flake gets 70 percent of the votes.
Maybe some things still aren’t always for sale.
I’m Pat McMahon.
