You may have heard that the respected Pew Research Center has released its findings from a recent national survey saying 8 out of 10 Americans don’t trust the federal government. Now, that may not come as a surprise to you but it’s certainly not encouraging.

On a far more optimistic note, the Arizona Legislature is doing its best to be remembered by future historians. While Washington seems to be accomplishing little or nothing, the state Capitol is virtually abuzz with activity. If you thought that the toughest immigration bill in the United States — coupled with new concealed weapons legislation — should be enough for one session, well, folks, they’re just getting started.

Monday, the Arizona House approved by a 31-22 vote a bill that would require President Barack Obama to show his birth certificate if he expects to be on this state’s ballot in the next presidential election. Yes, at the state Capitol, the “Birthers” are alive and voting. I, in turn, would like to see proof of their capacity for rational thought.
