Street race ends in fatal collision near NB 51 at Shea, traffic diverted

PHOENIX — A fatal collision at State Route 51 northbound at Shea has diverted all traffic, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Reports at 8:11 p.m. indicate that two vehicles were racing when one suddenly flipped over and crashed into the median wall near the Shea overpass.

There has been one confirmed fatality.

Arizona Department of Transportation reports that “All traffic must exit at Shea, but can re-enter via the Shea on-ramp.”

The road reopened around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Southbound lanes were not affected.
