PHOENIX — Nature lovers, Arizona visitors and those looking for a family-friendly outing: mark you calendars!

On Saturday, Feb. 29 and March 1, Avondale will host the Tres Rios Nature Festival for the the 17th year in a row.

Admission is free and festival hours are 10am to 4pm both days, and will be held at the Base and Meridian Wildlife Area on 7602 S. Avondale Blvd., Avondale, AZ 85323.

At the convergence of the Gila, Salt and Agua Fria rivers, participants will once again gather to celebrate the coming spring season by enjoying the native ecology along with a wide range of local businesses.

“Kid-friendly activities, educational displays, entertainment and a variety of vendors make this a great event for the entire family,” according to a press release.

“Attendees will be able to see wildlife up close, go canoeing or ziplining, try a hand at stand up paddle boarding, mountain biking, archery, fish, view local birds, hike, and learn all about STEAM [Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematic] opportunities in the Southwest Valley.”

No license is required to participate in the on-site fishing.

Wildlife experts from various organizations such as Sonoran Audubon, Arizona Game and Fish, AZ Herpetological Society and Arizona Audubon
will also be in attendance to answer any questions regarding the nature exhibits.

Other attractions include a 21-and-older beer garden, a beginner level archery range and a wide range of local food and music.

We want to hear from you.
