Arizona receives $30M EPA funding for water, infrastructure projects

PHOENIX — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made available $2.7 billion for State Revolving Funds (SRFs), $30.6 million of which will be available to Arizona.
According to a press release, the funds assist states in their quest to ensure safe drinking water and protect surface water, along with aiding related infrastructure projects.
EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler credited the Trump Administration for prioritizing infrastructure updates that are long overdue.
“In the past three years, the Trump Administration has accelerated EPA’s investment in infrastructure projects that modernize our nation’s water infrastructure and improve public health and the environment,” Wheeler noted.
The Trump Administration’s efforts will also “improve access to clean drinking water and provide necessary wastewater upgrades in our local communities,” according to the agency head.

Of the $30.6 million made available to Arizona, about $10.8 million will focus on infrastructure projects, while roughly $19.8 million will be used for treating contaminated water, aiding flood preparation, and uninstalling lead service lines.
In addition to the states themselves, the EPA’s funding is also being used to aid water related issues affecting various native tribes and territories.
