PHOENIX – A Glendale woman was arrested and accused of fatally shooting her husband during an argument and hiding his body in a car for several days, authorities said Friday.

Shata Syreeta Johnson, 39, turned herself in at a Phoenix police station Thursday and was booked on charges of second-degree murder and concealing a dead body, Glendale police said in a press release. She was transferred to Glendale custody.

According to court documents, she told police she shot Timothy Johnson, 55, in self-defense Monday. The police probable cause statement said they were arguing after she’d accused him of infidelity.

She allegedly shot him in the car and left the vehicle in the carport and was too scared to tell anybody what happened, police said.

She told a friend what happened Thursday, and he advised her to turn herself in, police said. In interviews with police, he said he’d been engaged to the suspect for years but he didn’t know where she lived, according to court documents.

Police had been called to the home near Thunderbird Road and 59th Avenue Monday after neighbors reported seeing a woman driving erratically and throwing items from the vehicle.

Shata Johnson was outside the house when officers arrived and she told them she didn’t need help and nobody else was home, police said.
