PHOENIX — The city of Mesa is hoping a new phone app and Alexa feature can make it easier for residents to pay utility bills and keep up with trash dates.

The MesaNow app will allow users to pay, check the balance and see the due date of utility bills.

Other features include detailing road restrictions, allow users to report issues to the city and keep track of the dates for recycling, yard waste and trash collections. There will also be online information about the city and government officials.

Mesa is working to develop more features for the app.

In addition to the phone app, an Alexa skill will soon be available with the same features.

To use it, residents who have an Alexa in their home will be able to add the city of Mesa skill to the Amazon product.

Once added, users can begin a request with “Alexa, ask the city of Mesa,” and finish the sentence with what they want to do.

The phone app is available now.

The Alexa feature is scheduled to be available March 1, according to the city website.
