The Weekly DownLloyd Episode 7: Fast food fury

Dec 6, 2013, 5:00 PM | Updated: 5:00 pm

As the producer of Mac & Gaydos this is my own unique, weird, wacky and, at times, warped look at the week’s seven biggest stories.

Fast food workers are ticked they’re not making more money. Hey join the club! They argue they should be making $15 an hour. Here’s the problem, if they quit there will be plenty of other people who will line up to apply for and take their jobs.

Some even argue if fast food workers were paid more they’d have more money to buy more stuff and inject money into the economy, that’s not a CEO’s job, they’re in place to maximize company profits, not be nice. And where’s this money tree that’s just going to give people more money? Would you want to pay more for a burger and fries, I know I don’t. Work hard, improve your craft, move up or find a new line of work. Stop whining.

It’s started, people around town are saying it’s cold out. A. It’s not that cold, this is the Valley. B. If you don’t like it here, move. Are you the same person who complains in July it’s hot here? It’s MUCH colder in the Midwest and Northwest and East. I don’t even like to run the heat during the winter. As long as it’s getting about 32 during the day, it’s not that cold. Fact is it’s pretty much always in the fifties out here during the day, that’s far from chilly! Cheer up, this is the best time to live out here. You’ll be complaining it’s 115 degrees out soon enough.

A tragic story this week came from Washington where a woman live-tweeted about her husband’s death in a freeway crash. I first heard about the live tweeting phenomenon during the Osama Bin Laden raid years ago, now it seems to happen all the time. I can’t imagine seeing news of a car crash though, tweeting about it and then coming to find out it was my spouse who passed away in the wreck. My thoughts and prayers certainly go out to Caran Johnson.
