Picking my NCAA brackets using the sequester

Mar 21, 2013, 1:37 AM | Updated: 1:37 am

I’ve always filled out my March Madness brackets in the strangest of ways.

Two years ago, I copied President Obama’s NCAA picks. Last year, I selected teams in towns/cities/states to win where gas prices were the highest. This year, I’m picking the towns and states that will be hit hardest by the sequester in the NCAA Tournament.

Why? Because they need a break!

And because I’m Gaydos.

No. 8 Missouri beats No. 9 Colorado

Missouri will lose approximately $11.9 million in funding for primary and secondary education. Colorado will only lose approximately $8.4 million in funding for primary and secondary education.

I have MISSOURI winning this match-up because they’re going to be hit much harder by the sequester than COLORADO will!

No. 12 Oregon will beat No. 5 Oklahoma

Oregon will lose 113,000 in department of public health. Oklahoma will only lose 98,000 in department of public health.

I have OREGON winning this match-up because they’re going to be hit much harder by the sequester than OKLAHOMA will!

No. 10 Cincinnati will beat No. 7 Creighton

Cincinnati (OH) will lose approximately $25.1 million in funding for primary and secondary education. Creighton (Nebraska) will lose approximately $3 million in funding for primary and secondary education.

I have CINCINNATI winning this match-up because they’re going to be hit much harder by the sequester than CREIGHTON will!

No. 2 Duke will beat No. 15 Albany

Durham Public Schools faces a projected budget deficit of about $12 million this year, said Superintendent Eric Becoats during a media briefing on Tuesday.

I have DUKE winning this match-up because they’re going to be hit much harder by the sequester than ALBANY will!

No. 8 Pitt will beat No. 9 Wichita State

Pitt (Pennsylvania) will lose approximately $26.4 million in funding for primary and secondary education. Wichita State (Kansas) will lose approximately $5.5 million in funding for primary and secondary education.

I have PITT winning this match-up because they’re going to be hit much harder by the sequester than WITCHITA STATE will!

No. 12 Ole Miss will beat No. 5 Wisconsin

Ole Miss (Mississippi) will lose approximately $141,000 in department of public health loss. Wisconsin will lose approximately $108,000 in department of public health.

I have OLE MISS winning this match-up because they’re going to be hit much harder by the sequester than WISCONSIN will!
