What WAS the point of Mark Kelly buying an AR-15?

Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, is getting flack for buying an AR-15.

What I can’t understand is why would Kelly buy something that he has every LEGAL right to do in the first place?

Kelly is in a difficult position. He didn’t ask to be a spokesperson or a mouthpiece for a movement when he married Gabby Giffords.

What happened to Gabby was a tragedy, but what Kelly did isn’t helping his cause. It’s marginalizing his message as well as Gabby’s on gun control.
