PHOENIX — What’s your credit score?

It’s a question that most prefer to keep on a need-to-know basis only.

But have you ever wondered how your credit score stacks up against your fellow Valley neighbors?

WalletHub, a personal finance website, released its 2020 list of U.S. cities with the highest and lowest credit scores on Friday.

The website used TransUnion data to compare the median credit scores of residents from 2,572 U.S. cities as of September 2019.

Sun City West took the cake for the state of Arizona, coming in as the city with the second-highest median credit score at 789 (99th percentile).

Other Valley cities to crack the 90th percentile include Fountain Hills (763 credit score) and Cave Creek (756 credit score), who both finished in the 93rd percentile.

Cities were also put into tiers and ranked based on population size.

A population of more than 300,000 was classified as large, while 100,000-300,000 people was deemed as midsize and less than 100,000 was dubbed as small.

Only three Arizona cities were eligible for the large category, which only contained a total of 65.

Tucson’s 676 credit score came in at No. 24, Mesa landed the No. 27 spot with a 675 credit score and Phoenix was ranked No. 47 with a credit score of 660.

San Francisco won the large city category thanks to its 748 credit score, while Detroit’s 555 median credit score finished last.

Seven Valley cities cracked the midsize list.

Scottsdale was crowned the victor in this category with its 740 credit score and was followed up by Gilbert due to its credit score of 721.

Chandler (713), Peoria (711) and Surprise (704) rounded out the rest of Arizona’s cities with 700-plus credit scores.

The final two from the Valley were Tempe and Glendale, who posted average credit scores of 667 and 666, respectively.

The United States national average is 694.

We want to hear from you.
