PHOENIX — Turn to the sky in Buckeye this weekend to watch airplane pilots display mid-air acrobatics.

The Buckeye Air Fair, which takes place at the Buckeye Municipal Airport this weekend starting Friday morning, will feature air shows from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Festival admission and parking is free. VIP tickets are available at $50 for one day and $85 for two-day tickets. Passes to the kid’s zone cost $10 per day.

The fair goes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spectators can see hundreds of planes including military, vintage and remote-controlled aircraft.

The airshow will feature several planes including the Yak-110, which was built when pilot Jeff Boerboon combined his two Yak-55s together and added a jet engine, according to the Robb Report. Another is the F1 Rocket, which can reach speeds up to 300 miles per hour.

Historic military displays and the Cooperstate Fly-in expo, which will include a Sky Mall and display more than 300 static aircraft, will be open for view beginning Friday.

There will be two special activities Saturday: a sci-tech fest during the day and the Mayor’s Blue Jean Ball from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. that will have live music, a barbecue and a night air show.

The ball costs $20 to attend.

On Sunday, if weather allows, there will be tethered hot air balloon rides from 7 to 10 a.m. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for kids ages 12 and under. Tickets will be available on the day of the event.

We want to hear from you.
