Final Word: Bully gets his comeuppance in Ohio

Did you see the story of the Ohio man who was sentenced to a street corner last week?

Edmond Aviv pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge in connection with a dispute between himself and a neighbor.

Disorderly conduct is not usually a big deal, but what this guy did got him 15 days in jail and five hours on a street corner. More on that later.

By most accounts, Aviv is a nasty man. Awful, hateful and downright miserable. He lives next door to a woman in Euclid, Ohio, who might be his polar opposite.

Sandra Prugh and her family have lived next to Aviv for 15 years. Two of her kids have developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, and epilepsy.

Like many disabled kids, Prugh’s kids still live at home.
I bet her life is like working three full-time jobs, consecutively.

Aviv, apparently, hasn’t had much happen to him that’s been unpleasant in this life. The smell coming from the Prughs’ dryer vent has bothered him for years. So what did he do?

Harrassed her, yelled ethnic slurs at her, and smeared feces on her property. Nice.

So what did the judge do? Perhaps the best thing of all. The judge sentenced Aviv to 15 days in jail, plus five hours on the street corner in his neighborhood, holding a sign that read, “I am a bully. I pick on children that are disabled, and I am intolerant of those that are different from myself. My actions do not reflect an appreciation for the diverse South Euclid community that I live in.”

Nice work, Judge Gayle Williams-Byers. You let everyone know what a jerk this guy is. Aviv said the judge ruined his life. That just about says it all, doesn’t it?

Are there two people in the world more different than Aviv and Prugh? Maybe not.

Aviv had to sit on a street corner for five hours and his life was ruined. His NEIGHBOR chose to adopt two special- needs kids and take care of them all day, every day.
That’s a lifelong labor of love. Her life is way richer than his.

Too bad he’ll never figure that out.
