Final Word: Most celebrities’ kids deserve privacy

Aug 14, 2013, 8:43 PM | Updated: 8:43 pm

Two prominent Hollywood celebrities testified Tuesday at a California State Assembly hearing about the paparazzi.

Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner pleaded for a special law to shield their children from the long lenses of celeb- hungry photographers.

Usually, I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the plight of celebrities. If you make your living making movies or having your picture taken, you should expect a lurking photographer to snap a shot of you talking with a mouthful of food every once in a while.

If you are in private, say the backyard, I think you should expect privacy. But in public, the celebrity herself or himself, is fair game.

Their kids, however, are not.

At least they shouldn’t be.

But check out the cover of US magazine this week. There is a 16-page spread advertising “back-to-school” pictures of the kids of Hollywood stars. Sixteen PAGES!

And, you know those celebrities, at least most of them, didn’t let their kids pose for those shots.

Now, the Kardashian baby, that’s another story.

If Kim and Kanye, or anyone else decides to sell their baby’s photos for some obscene amount, I think they forfeit their rights to privacy.

Same goes for stars who parade their kids on the red carpet. If you use your kids to promote your image, you don’t get the privacy in return.

Maybe the stars could opt in or out?

But I think that most of these celebs just want their kids to be left alone.

And they deserve it.

Final Word: Pay attention to the upcoming election, Arizona

Well, Arizona, you got what you wanted. I don’t know if Arizona will ever actually BE a purple state, but there are now more registered Independents than Republicans or Democrats. Whether or not they vote is the question. Also, for whom does an Independent likely vote? The latest Rasmussen poll in Arizona found gubernatorial candidates […]
