Final Word: Yoko Ono’s gun control tweet

The president retweeted it, and you have to admit, it’s a stunning picture.
Yoko Ono tweeted out a picture of her late husband John Lennon’s bloody glasses, along with the message that over 1 million people have been killed by guns in the U.S. since John was shot and killed on Dec. 8, 1980. She followed up with, “After 33 years, our son Sean and I still miss him.”
It should be noted that Mark David Chapman killed Lennon with a handgun, and any assault weapons ban currently being debated would have had no effect on a shooter like that but some method for ensuring that the mentally ill can’t access a firearm would have.
There just aren’t any easy answers to that.
Modern science now has the ability to pull off a real-life “Jurassic Park.”
The movie I watched as a teenager really could happen! It’s a quandary for scientists and ethicists: While it would be pretty cool to bring back a species long after it became extinct — they’ve actually done this with one animal who survived a reported 10 minutes — what about WHY the animal became extinct in the first place?
What about that animal’s habitat? Food chain? Predators? Will the animal upset the ecosystem as it is now? And which species get to come back first?
The more able we are to play God, the more we realize how delicate is the balance of nature.
When it comes to saving human lives, the answers seem to be so much more clear.
Jay Leno may be getting pushed out by NBC, but he is getting his digs in while he can.
Half of his monologues this week made fun of NBC executives. Maybe he thinks the end is coming SOONER than the New York Times says it is. The way he is dinging the network, you would think he’s only got a week.
NBC better finish that New York City studio for Jimmy Fallon. Fast!
