1 suspect shot by DPS troopers in Glendale; 2 others escape

PHOENIX – One man was shot and critically wounded by an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper Thursday in Glendale, after he pointed a gun at them, authorities said.
Two other men escaped law enforcement in what began as a traffic stop near 91st and Montebello avenues around 5:30 p.m., the agency said Friday in a press release.
Troopers tried to pull over the vehicle, which was suspected of being used during a nearby robbery. The driver slammed into the patrol unit and disabled it. One of the men inside the car then pulled out a weapon and aimed at an officer.
The trooper fired, hitting the suspect, who taken to a hospital. The others inside the vehicle fled on foot near 89th and Maryland avenues.

Authorities shut down the area for a search.
