Movies in a Minute: Chasing Mavericks

A movie inspired by true events, Chasing Mavericks, focuses on a young teenage boy, Jay Moriarty, who has dreams of becoming a big time surfer. When Jay learns that the mythic Maverick wave exists close to his home he seeks help from a local surf legend (Gerard Butler). As the two seek to accomplish something miraculous, a friendship forms.

Bruce St. James said, “I wanted to like this more. For fans of surfing and the ocean, it’s worth seeing just for the amazing shots of these guys surfing the “mavericks”, or killer waves. The adjoining “based on a true story” plays more like something you’d see on an after-school special.”
