PHOENIX — Two Valley health care groups broke ground on a new mental health center in Scottsdale on Tuesday.

HonorHealth and Universal Health Services began construction on the 120-bed Via Linda Behavioral Hospital, which is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2021.

The 73,000-square-foot facility will offer 24-hour care and be built about 4 miles southwest of HonorHealth’s Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, near Scottsdale and Doubletree Ranch roads.

“At HonorHealth, we feel a strong responsibility to our community to increase access for this type of care,” HonorHealth CEO Todd LaPorte said in a press release.

“Inspired by the national track record and proven leadership of UHS, HonorHealth pursued a partnership with them as an ideal way to leverage their specialized expertise and their ability to attract talented behavioral health professionals, who are in high demand across the country.”

The facility will offer behavioral health assessments and programs for patients with behavioral health and substance abuse issues.

Services for patients with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other behavioral health issues will also be provided.

UHS will be the majority owner and oversee the day-to-day operations of the facility, according to the release.

We want to hear from you.
