Disrespecting Office of President isn’t funny

Jul 7, 2014, 5:10 PM | Updated: 5:10 pm

You can’t even avoid partisan political bickering at a Fourth of July parade.

A float depicting the Obama Presidential Library as an outhouse was part of the parade in Norfolk, Neb. Some think it’s the funniest thing they’ve ever seen. EVER. Others deride this as a racist stab at the president.

Both are wrong.

Regardless of which side is doing it, disrespecting the Executive Office of the President, especially on the Fourth of July, is neither funny nor racist. Or American.

Thankfully, the people who get excited or outraged over this float are NOT the majority of people in America, they are just the loudest and most obnoxious. This country has stalled, and in many ways it’s because of the false narrative that we are split 50/50 on every issue. The reality is we are split 10/80/10, with the largest group neither worshiping nor hating any elected official.

And we would never dream of dishonoring our nation or president with bathroom humor on the Fourth of July.
