PHOENIX – Valley motorists might run into late-night and early-morning slowdowns on Interstate 17 and the new Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway this week because of roadwork.

The restrictions start at 10 p.m. Monday night on the westbound Loop 202, which will be narrowed to one lane until 5 a.m. Tuesday from Estrella Drive to Baseline Road.

At the same time, eastbound Loop 202 will be reduced to two lanes from 17th Avenue to Desert Foothills Parkway and the eastbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Desert Foothills will be closed.

The eastbound restriction from 17th Avenue to Desert Foothills and the Desert Foothills off-ramp closure will repeat from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night until Thursday morning.

Additionally, the eastbound Loop 202 will be narrowed to two lanes from 32nd Street to 40th Street from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday and again at the same time the next night. The eastbound off-ramp at 40th Street will be closed at those times, too.

The restrictions on the new freeway are for pavement grinding.

In central Phoenix, I-17 will have overnight restrictions in different spots from Tuesday evening until Friday morning.

The left two lanes of southbound I-17 will be closed near the I-10 stack interchange from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday for pavement repairs.

Then the left three southbound lanes will be closed from Northern Avenue to Bethany Home Road from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday for pavement repairs.

The southbound right line will be closed from Buckeye Road to Seventh Avenue, around the Durango Curve, from 9 a.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday for guardrail repairs. The southbound off-ramp at Durango Street will be closed at that time.

In an unrelated project, the left two lanes of eastbound U.S. 60/Grand Avenue will be closed near Osborn Road for pavement work from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday for pavement work
