PHOENIX – Pee-wee Herman himself, aka Paul Reubens, will pedal his Schwinn cruiser into Phoenix in March for a 35th anniversary screening of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.”

The extravaganza will take place at Arizona Federal Theatre (formerly Comerica Theatre), not in the basement of the Alamo, on March 7.

Tickets ranging from $39.50 to $59.50 plus fees went on sale Friday. You can tell them Large Marge sent you, but the price won’t change.

Three VIP packages named after famous Pee-wee catchphrases — “I Know You Are,” “Why Don’t You Take a Picture” and “I Meant to Do That” — are also available, offering a variety of perks and goodies.

In addition to a showing of “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” Reubens will share behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the cult classic film.

The movie was a modest hit in theaters, earning more than $40 million at the box office when it was released in 1985.

But the surreal comic tale of Pee-wee’s heroic quest to recover his beloved stolen bike — the directorial debut of Tim Burton — has since won generations of fans of all ages.

The Phoenix stop is among several late additions to a nationwide tour set to kick off Friday in Ventura, California. More than half of the 25 scheduled stops already are sold out.

We want to hear from you.
