Driver falls from van, killed in hit-and-run south of Phoenix

PHOENIX – Police in a city south of Phoenix said Thursday a man was killed after he jumped out of his vehicle into traffic and was run over by a car.
ABC15 reported the driver of the car left the scene in Maricopa, less than 30 miles from Phoenix.
The accident shut down part of Smith Enke Road near State Route 347 for about three hours, reopening around 7:30 a.m.
Police told the station that the young man who died had gotten into an argument with his father and left the vehicle.
Westbound Smith Enke road closed at Santa Cruz for an unknown amount of time for serious accident investigation. Detours in place please plan ahead. Updates to follow when available.

The hit-and-run driver was in a dark-colored sedan, police said.
No other details were immediately available.
