Mesa unveils new park with unique playground, 1-mile walking trail

PHOENIX – There’s a unique new place to play in Mesa.
Officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday for the first phase of Signal Butte Park.
The 30-acre recreation space at Signal Butte and Elliot roads in east Mesa is anchored by a custom-built, geometric play structure with slides and a variety of climbing features.
“We talk a lot about how important it is that Mesa has to remain a great place to be a kid,” Mayor John Giles said during the ceremony.
“That’s been one of our really core values as a community for decades, and I’m very proud that we are aware of that and that we’re cultivating that and that we’re working hard to maintain that great reputation.”

The park also has swings, four ramadas and a 1-mile walking trail that circles the Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant.
The Siphon Draw Wash runs through the park and is usually flowing with water, creating a riparian nature habitat.
A second phase to the north, which is scheduled for completion in 2023, will have a bridge over the wash, a BMX bicycle track, a multi-use trail and more.
In November, Mesa completed work on the third phase of Eastmark Great Park at Ray Road and Eastmark Parkway. The first phase of Eastmark opened in 2013.
