PHOENIX – A career climb that began in the accounting department has reached the top for Dean Muglia, who has been named CEO of Scottsdale-based Discount Tire.
The company made the announcement Monday. Muglia has worked for the chain for 31 years, hired by founder Bruce Halle to lead the accounting wing.
The popular Halle died two years ago at the age of 87.
“I look forward to growing with the Discount Tire family and serving our employees and customers with the passion Mr. Halle instilled,” Muglia said in a statement.
“This company means everything to me – I’m honored to help lead our remarkable organization to new heights.”
Muglia had been chief corporate officer since 2018.
“Above all else, Dean is passionate about Discount Tire and our people,” chairman and interim CEO Michael Zuieback said in a statement.
“He truly embodies Mr. Halle’s five life lessons: be honest, work hard, have fun, be grateful and pay it forward.”
The 60-year-old business has had five CEOs.
Halle started his business in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1960. He picked up stakes and moved to Arizona in 1970.
The company has more than 1,000 stores in 35 states.
