Robert is a blue-collar working father who has been away from his wife and youngest son for more than three months. Robert’s wife, Angela, has been away in Edmonton, Alberta, with their youngest son, Joel, who has a congenital heart condition.
Robert has had to stay behind at home with his older son a state over in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as he has continued working for a transit company to pay the bills.
Angela and Joel have staying at a Ronald McDonald House, which partnered with WestJet recently to reunite the family, unbeknownst to the father.
In a five-minute video that shows the events leading up to the family’s reunion, WestJet employee Medel Villena gets to surprise Robert with the news that he’s being given a free flight to Edmonton, which is about an 80-minute trip through the air.
Villena even has trained to do Robert’s job, and he tells the father he’ll cover his shifts for five days.
“As a dad, I want to help a fellow father out,” Villena says in the video.
It’s a perfect, feel-good video leading up to the upcoming Father’s Day holiday.
