PHOENIX – A fresh market restaurant in Tempe has abruptly closed after two years.

Tempe Public Market Cafe shared the news on social media Friday morning that it was out of business.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we make the following announcement. Effective today January 17th, Tempe Public Market Cafe will be closed,” the note on Facebook and Instagram read.

Less than a year ago, the casual restaurant at Warner and Rural roads closed briefly for renovations inside and outside.

The offshoot of Phoenix Public Market Cafe thanked customers and said, “Here’s to the next journey.”

Many commenters on the posts expressed their dismay at the news.

“Whhhhhhhaaaat!!!! Noooo!!!” wrote one fan of the eatery.

“Oh no. I loved this place,” another diner wrote.

“NOOOOO!!! My husband and I would go there almost every Friday for date lunch! This makes me so sad!” another poster lamented.

The menu featured locally sourced and organic ingredients in its pizzas, salads, sandwiches and pastries.

Siblings Aaron and David Chamberlin ran the restaurant and its next-door neighbor, Ghost Ranch, together before splitting up the business.

They were the force behind the St. Francis restaurant in Phoenix until 2018.

We want to hear from you.
