Leukemia-striken girl greeted by thousands of carolers

Dec 22, 2013, 9:04 PM | Updated: 9:04 pm

About 10,000 people gathered outside of the home of an 8-year-old girl in West Reading, Penn., Saturday night.

That girl, Laney Brown, got to hear what will likely be her last round of Christmas carols.

CNN affiliate WFMZ reports Laney has leukemia, and that she only has a few weeks left to live.

Laney was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia seven months ago. Last week doctors told her family that she has 70% cancer cells in her blood. She came home from the hospital on Thursday and said she wanted to hear Christmas carols.

The carolers came to her house for about an hour, and the crowd continually grew in size. Santa even made the trip.

Even though (Laney) was too weak to go to the window, she heard the wonderful music.

“I can hear you now!!! Love you!” she said through a photo her family posted to a Team Laney Facebook page showing the girl, two thumbs up despite a breathing mask, lying in bed.

CNN also reports that one of Laney’s last wishes was to meet singer Taylor Swift, and that the wish came true: The country superstar video was able to connect with Laney via video chat on Friday, which happened to be the dying girl’s birthday.

Laney’s family continually posts updates on her status through the Team Laney Facebook page.
