PHOENIX — There’s a new pooch hitting the West Valley streets to help take down criminals.
A 2 ½-year-old Belgian Malinois named Diko recently joined Goodyear Police Department’s four other K9 members.
The department said Diko completed training in November 2019 and is patrolling with Officer Josh White. The dog is specially trained in narcotics.
“He enjoys playing with his fellow K9 brothers,” the department said in a Facebook post. “But his favorite thing to do is cuddle with his teddy bear.”
Goodyear’s K9 Rudy retired in June after serving the department for seven years.
During his time as a police dog, Rudy apprehended over 100 criminals, sniffed out over 850 pounds of marijuana and helped seize over $100,000.
