PHOENIX – Motorists heading into the Phoenix area from the north should be aware of planned closures on Interstate 17 for two nights this week.

Several miles of southbound I-17 in the Black Canyon City area will be shut down overnight Tuesday and Wednesday while crews install concrete barrier, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced.

The highway will be closed from Sunset Point (milepost 252) to Bumble Bee Road (milepost 248) from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 2 a.m. Wednesday and from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday.

(UPDATE: ADOT announced Wednesday that all the work was completed the previous night, so the second closure has been canceled.)

Northbound traffic will not be affected.

Drivers should delay travel to avoid the closure or take alternate routes during those times, ADOT said.

ADOT provides real-time highway conditions online, on Twitter or over the phone at 511.

Drivers can also get alerts and alternate route notifications via ADOT’s mobile app.
